The company is starting to monetize its free version and the new ChatGPT Go tier, offering brands premium placement.
According to The Information, OpenAI is preparing for a large-scale rollout of advertising in its chatbot, setting some of the highest rates in the industry. The company is betting on the uniqueness of the conversational format, which it believes provides higher value than traditional social media.
The proposal sets the cost of placement at $60 (approx. €56) per 1,000 views (CPM). This significantly exceeds market averages: for comparison, a similar reach on Meta platforms costs advertisers about $20. Notably, OpenAI currently provides only basic statistics without deep targeting.
Testing of ad blocks will begin in the coming weeks in the US. Ads will appear for users of the free version and subscribers of the new ChatGPT Go tier, while Plus, Pro, and Enterprise subscribers will continue to use the service ad-free.
