Samsung Prepares to Supply Innovative Camera Modules for iPhone 18

They will be manufactured in the USA.

The Elec reports that Samsung is preparing to supply Apple with advanced cameras for the iPhone 18. This marks the first time Apple will move away from Sony as the sole supplier of camera modules for the iPhone.

The sensors will be manufactured by Samsung at its existing facility in Austin, Texas.

The new iPhone sensor will utilize a three-layer architecture to increase pixel density. This will improve photography in low-light conditions. Multi-layer sensors also expand dynamic range, reduce power consumption during shooting, and ensure faster readout speeds. Such technology has not previously been applied on a commercial scale.

Samsung is preparing to invest $19 billion in its Austin plant. Production lines for these camera modules are set to begin operations in the spring.
